Meditation and creativity - is there a connection?

The absolute silence, that which occurs for example when we meditate, is important in our busy lives.

Meditation and including mindfulness is a good tool for gaining insight into our body, mind and emotions. But it is good for much more than that. Studies show that meditation lowers our blood pressure and can help strengthen our immune system. In addition, a daily practice can help reduce stress and anxiety. Mindfulness meditation is often practiced for individual benefit, but research in the field indicates that it can also have a positive impact on an organizational level. In addition to improving our mental and physical well-being, mindfulness can increase both creativity and decision-making processes.

In the book 'Mindfulness for Creativity', author Danny Penman writes about the connection between mindfulness and creativity. In the book, he argues that mindfulness meditation can improve three skills necessary for creativity and creative problem solving. The first skill gained through mindfulness is 'divergent thinking'. Divergent thinking is a thought process where many solutions and points of view are explored in parallel. It is a fluid process that can lead to new, creative solution models. The second skill that is achieved through mindfulness is increased attention, which makes it easier to register the usefulness and thus the usefulness of new ideas. Last but not least, mindfulness provides courage and resilience to setbacks. This characteristic is essential since failures and setbacks are closely related to any innovation process.

Meditation can therefore be a useful tool for the creation of creative solutions and the strengthening of decision-making processes, which many companies can benefit from.
