Creativity as the art of introverts

Many people think that creativity is something that occurs in groups. That creativity is a characteristic of extroverts, but in reality creativity requires silence and calm.

In the Plaza de la Merced in Spain sits a bronze statue of the artist Pablo Picasso. He sits on a bench with a notebook in his hand, lost in his own thoughts. Picasso believed that being lonely was the way to creativity and good work. Being lonely, or rather being alone with your own thoughts, is fuel for creativity. When we are alone, we create a space where reflection and new ideas are possible without interruption. But in an age where speed and efficiency characterize workplaces and private homes, it can be difficult to take time to be in silence, and to immerse oneself in oneself under the auspices of slowness.
